On Saturday Morning 02/25/12, at approximately 2AM, two Canton police officers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on Route 138 with their emergency lights activated when both of their cruisers were struck by another vehicle. Officers were out of their vehicles conversing with the operator of the vehicle they had stopped when the accident happened. The offending vehicle was stopped and the operator cited.

 

Luckily nobody was injured in the incident, but it should serve as a reminder to the motoring public to pay attention and use caution when approaching an emergency vehicle with its lights activated. There has been a disturbing increase in the past few years of police officers being struck by motor vehicles while on details and traffic stops.
